For riders who want to hire a bike for the tour we work with a company called Cycling Rentals, which is based near Lisbon but can deliver anywhere in Portugal and provides a range of models and accessories.
In order to make sure you are provided with the right bike for you, please complete the form below as carefully as possible. (A copy will need to be completed for each rider on your booking).
We recommend riders always carry a waterproof, an extra layer and personal gear (money, passport, phone etc.). To do that, you will need a pannier or some other kind of pack*. For this reason we suggest you hire a bike with a rack – either the road touring bike or the hybrid-style suspension tourer (there’s also a women’s model).
The road touring bikes are lighter and faster. The hybrids have a wider range of gears and are more comfortable for anyone preferring an upright riding position but are heavier and slower.
*Please note: Unless you are bringing your own pannier/saddlebag, we suggest you will need to hire one. A pair of light panniers (see accessories list) is generally quite adequate for two people to carry their personal items, snacks and a waterproof and/or extra layers.
Every bike rental includes a lock, pump, mini-tool, spare tube, tyre levers, water bottle (yours to keep) and either platform or cage (toe clip) pedals at no extra charge.
Helmets are not included. They can be hired for a minimal cost but if possible we recommend you bring your own helmet to be certain of a good and comfortable fit.
Accessories – such as panniers, SPD pedals, bar bags, mirrors, helmets, odometers – are available at an extra charge. For details click here.
Cycling Rentals also offers a €15/bike theft/crash insurance policy – please see their terms & conditions for both details of cover and general booking terms.
The cost of hiring a road touring or suspension touring bike for 10 days will be around €170-180, including delivery and collection (minus any accessories). The exact amount will depend on the number of riders who are hiring as the delivery/collection cost is shared.
Alternative hire companies
You are not obliged to rent from Cycling Rentals but if you decide to go elsewhere you will be responsible for arranging your own hire and the delivery and collection of your bike. Details of some alternative hire companies can be found on this page.
