There are plenty of accommodation options in Portugal – and some amazing bargains, particularly in remoter places and out of season. Many of these can be found with a quick Google search or via the big travel portals.
Local links
Not all Portuguese hotels and guest houses have their own websites and many do not list their rooms with online sites.
Details of these can only be found by checking lists published by the local council/tourist office.
The highlighted links below take you to the relevant listings for each town.
Where town names are not highlighted, I have been unable to find an online accommodation list. In which case, try a site like Booking.com or Tripadvisor.
As with other parts of the site, listings are divided into the following regions (see map):
- Northern Portugal (everywhere north of the Douro)
- The Beiras
- Lisbon & Central (includes the Ribatejo and Estremadura regions)
- The Alentejo
- The Algarve
There are also some listings for individual hotels etc. that have been recommended by fellow riders or that offer specific deals for cyclists (more recommendations always welcome).

Bikotel
Bikotel is a Portuguese sustainability project promoting lodging offering “specific amenities to answer the needs of those who consider cycling the best thing in life (road or mountain biking)”.
There are hundreds of participants in the scheme – ranging from some very upmarket hotels (mansions) to rural manor houses, small guest houses and campsites.
Members must offer: a secure bike garage, bike washing facility, cyclist menu (carbs, fruit and veggie), overnight cycling clothes laundry, a ‘mini-bike repair facility’ and details of local routes, plus other optional extras.
Optional extras that may also be on offer range from bike hire and transfer services to massage for cyclists!

If you’re looking for luxury forget it, but if you want an absolute bargain in the centre of the old town a double room costs €20-25 and a three-course lunch is €5 (prices in 2015).
Lisbon & Central

Pedal Portugal 
I can recommend 2 hotels for cyclists in the Algarve area of Porutugal. I used these hotels on a cycling holiday in April 2015.
Hotel 3K, 500yards from Faro airport. Ideal for overnight on arrival or departure. Hotel Vasco de Gama in Monte Gordo. Ideal to explore Eastern Algarve and over the border in Spain. Both hotels were very reasonably priced and offered secure and safe parking of bicycles. I booked these hotels through Travel Republic which may be cheaper than booking direct. John
