Hotels, Guest Houses Etc.

Portugal_regions_mapThere’s plenty of accommodation options in Portugal – and some amazing bargains to be had.

Some of it can be found with a quick Google search or via one of the big travel sites like

But not all Portuguese accommodation options have their own websites and some can only be found online by checking the lists published by the local council/tourist office.

Whether you’re on an extended tour or a more casual trip, the lists on this page contain a wealth of options including:

  • accommodation aimed specifically at cyclists
  • recommendations from fellow riders
  • listings provided by local tourism offices

Accommodation is listed under the name of the nearest main/large town. Where the names of towns are highlighted, these are links to listings/information provided by the local council or tourist office.

***If you find any dead links please, please, please let me know so I can update them!***

Many pages are in Portuguese but should provide links to websites and other contact information for individual accommodation providers. (See the glossary for a list of Portuguese accommodation terms and their meanings.)

Where town names are not highlighted this means I have been unable to find a list of accommodation providers. In this case, I’d advise trying a site like or TripAdvisor.

The listings are also divided into the same regions (see map) as other parts of this site:

  • Northern Portugal
  • The Beiras
  • Lisbon & Central (includes the Ribatejo and Estremadura regions)
  • The Alentejo
  • The Algarve

Included in the lists of hotels and guest houses are those that are part of the Bikotel network. Members of the scheme have to offer a secure bike garage, bike washing facility, cyclist menu (carbs, fruit and veggy), overnight cycling clothes laundry, a ‘mini-bike repair facility’ and details of local routes, plus other optional extras.

Whatever you’re looking for, the information below contains everything from elegant mansions to isolated farmhouses and cheap guesthouses. The choice is yours!

PLEASE NOTE: This page continues to be compiled on an ongoing basis. I am currently adding listings for individual hotels, B&Bs etc that cater for cyclists – for a free listing on this page, contact

I also want recommendations from other cyclists. If you’ve stayed somewhere you really liked, please share the knowledge with your fellow cyclists, please get in touch. Use the ‘Leave A Reply’  box at the bottom of the page or email your suggestions.

4 thoughts on “Hotels, Guest Houses Etc.”

  1. I can recommend 2 hotels for cyclists in the Algarve area of Porutugal. I used these hotels on a cycling holiday in April 2015.
Hotel 3K, 500yards from Faro airport. Ideal for overnight on arrival or departure. Hotel Vasco de Gama in Monte Gordo. Ideal to explore Eastern Algarve and over the border in Spain. Both hotels were very reasonably priced and offered secure and safe parking of bicycles. I booked these hotels through Travel Republic which may be cheaper than booking direct. John
