Cycling Portugal, General, Rides & Routes

Give Me Facts!

There are obviously a lot of cyclists interested in coming to Portugal. That’s clear from the increasing number of hits on this site.

Last year I was getting around 3-400 visitors and 1,500 page views per month. This month, I’ve already hit 500 visitors and almost 3,000 page views!

The fact that Pedal Portugal is also one of the first things to come up on Google (often the first thing) if you type in any kind of query relating to ‘cycling’ and ‘Portugal’ shows this site is filling a need.

All of which is really gratifying. I love Portugal, I know what it’s like trying to plan a cycling trip to a new country and I’m glad to be able to help.

I’m not selling anything* – what I’m trying to do is pull together lots of information that will tell potential visitors everything from where to buy maps to what the roads are like in a particular area.

I’m also happy to try and answer individual queries where I can. (Please remember though, I’m one guy doing this in my spare time as a hobby and I don’t know everything!)

But you can make my life a lot easier.

I get many queries along the line of ‘can you recommend a route from Lisbon to Faro’. Well, I could but how long’s a piece of string?

There are many possible answers. The simplest one is: it depends!

The best route depends on many factors: time of year, how long you’ve got, what kind of bike you ride, what type of places you want to stay in, etc, etc. And, of course, the other big one: how far do you like to ride in a day? Don’t forget that one rider’s long day can be another’s morning warm-up.

I’m happy to try and help but, please people, give me more facts to work with!

To that end, I’ve put together a standard advice form. If you’ve got a query, please fill in the form with as much detail as possible and I’ll do my best to respond with something useful.

*I’m not selling anything at the moment! When I get time, I’m hoping to pull the information on this site into a book format and make it available in both print and ebook formats. That’s going to take a while, though, so don’t hold your breath.

As this site is also taking up more and more of my time, I’m also planning on introducing some advertising – although only for services that will be of interest to cyclists. So, if you run a bike hire company, a B&B or can offer airport pickups for cyclists then please do get in touch!
